Online User Manual:  R5000-HD DVR

Installation
All necessary files are supplied in a self-installing executable. Once downloaded, double click on the file to run the installer and follow the instructions to install the R5000-HD into the location of your choice.

Installing the USB drivers:
1.Connect the STB to the PC with the supplied USB cable. It does not have to be plugged into AC power at this point. Windows XP/2K should notify you of “New Hardware Found”, “USB Device”. Click on the system tray icon or wait for the "New Hardware Wizard" to start. If you installed the R5000-HD into the default directory (c:\Program Files\r500hd), then choose the "Recommended" setting, click "Next" and go onto step 2. If you installed to a custom directory choose the "Advanced" setting.

Important Note: There are some USB devices shipped by other manufacturers that incorrectly associate the generic VID & PID values of the Cypress USB chip with a specialized driver. Because of this it is possible that Windows may automatically download and install an incorrect driver. To prevent this from happening, never let the Hardware Wizard check the Internet for a suitable driver if prompted. Also, consider choosing the "Advanced" setting below and direct the wizard to the location of the Nextcom supplied driver. If you happen to install a "rogue" driver, follow these instructions

If you chose the "Advanced" setting, then point to the location where the drivers are pre-installed. It will be a folder named "drivers" under your custom installation path. See below:

2. Windows will install the driver files. If it tells you that the driver has not passed “Logo Testing”, click on “continue anyway”.

3. Click on “Finish” to complete the driver installation. You can bring up the Device Manager and verify that the Nextcom driver is installed: "Nextcom Generic USB Device".

4. Run the R5000-HD application using either the start menu or desktop icon. The Status window will display “Configuring USB”, as it loads the firmware into the USB device. At this point you should see the following error screen pop up. This is normal as the driver has not been associated with the HDTV recorder. You do not have to respond to the dialog at this time. Wait for the "New Hardware Wizard" to start again (or click on the tray notification) and go through steps 1 to 3 again. Now acknowledge the dialog by clicking "OK".

The R5000-HD will continue to configure the USB device, finishing with a status
of "Ready". You will only have to go through this procedure once, even if the USB device is unplugged (as long as you use the same USB port each time since Windows binds the driver to the USB device and port).
