Setup (DVR)
The MCE version DVR application works pretty much the same as the standard version. You'll find that an additional menu item is available under the "Options" heading. The Media Center menu item opens up the dialog below where additional settings affecting the interaction with MCE are exposed. Note: when operating in the "Client" mode this is the only dialog available.

1. Mode: This selects the various operating modes of the DVR. The application will restart itself when the selection is changed and the dialog is dismissed with "OK".

  • Disabled - The Media Center connections are disabled and the DVR operates in the same manner as the standard version software.

  • Client - The software is installed on a MCE machine without an R5000-HD device attached. A network connection is required to the PC with the connected R5000-HD device. In this mode, the "Server" IP box is enabled and the user modifies the entry to match the remote PC's IP address. The remote PC must be running this software in "Server" mode. The "Connected" indicator turns green once a connection is successfully established. On the client side, the tray icon will also turn red.

  • Server - This is the default setting for using the software with Media Center.

2. Transport Stream File: The DVR app can be set to simultaneously create its standard transport stream files whenever Media Center records a program. The filename defaults to the program name from the TV guide and the episode title can be optionally appended. In the case of manual recordings, the file may take the form "MCE recording channel <ch> at <date, time>" if Media Center can't align the recording request with guide data. Media files with the "ts" extension should appear in Media Center when searching folders, but the option to use the "mpg" extension is available. Bear in mind that this does not change the file type from a transport stream to a program stream.

Note: The path for the transport stream recordings made via Media Center is selected here and not from the main dialog. When connected to a client, these options are not available at the server and can only be accessed from the client.

3. Connections: The indicator along the bottom turns green when the server mode DVR is connected to the Media Center receiver service. The tray icon also turns from gray to red. If client/server connections fail, make sure that ports 5000-5002 are not blocked by your firewall.
