Transport Stream Sample Files
These clips were recorded using the R5000-HD. The MPEG-2 transport streams are fully compliant with the ISO 13818-1 standard. If you aren't sure whether your playback device supports this standard, download and play the short clips available below. The Dish network clips were recorded using the model 6000 receiver and the DirecTV clips were made from a modified DTC100. There is no difference in compatibility between the two.

Note: The sample stream files are zipped for faster download. After downloading the zip file, it is usually possible to play it right from the compressed (zipped) folder without first extracting it.

MPEG-4(AVC/H.264) and MPEG-2 SD samples as captured by the R5000-HD from Dish Network. See how MPEG-4 picture quality compares with MPEG-2 for the same program material. The video bit rate for the MPEG-4 transmission is ~1.9Mb/s. The MPEG-2 rate clocks in around 2.5Mb/s.

How to play M-PEG4 files: Download and install the Elecard MPEG Player. Make sure to get both the 4.0.1 Player and the AVC Plugin. Both are available as a free trial or to purchase.

How to properly find the video bit-rate

D-VHS Compatibility: The MPEG-4 transport streams are fully compatible with D-VHS can be recorded in the same way as MPEG-2 streams. The Lack of a Firewire decoder solution limits playback to recovering the original stream file.
Sony HD Camcorder
These clips were shot using a Sony FX-1 HD Camcorder. Many push to tape utilities cannot support the format and higher data rate of these transport streams. Try them out with our newly released Disk2Tape utility.
